The internet has given rise to a huge amount of solitaire games and this can only be a good thing. But while there are lots of games, it is also true that they are not all the same, in fact there are a few that really stand out. Having said that there are several key styles of solitaire game around, and here we will cover some of the main ones.

Firstly, and often regarded as the one that started it all is the Klondike Solitaire. In this style you have to move the cards from the ace up to the king. Where the challenge comes is that you can only move cards onto the opposite suit, and one number above the card you wish to move.

By moving the cards and revealing the face down cards you are then able to find the aces and start to build up from there. With a deck of the remaining cards available to help you until all 52 are cleared.

Following this there is a style called Freecell, it looks and works almost the same as Klondike, however the 4 spaces at the top of the table can be used for any card, not just the 4 aces. This makes the game quite a lot easier but is still fun to play.

Another similar version is called Yukon Solitaire, in this version you are able to move not just the bottom card, but any card along a pile, as long as the card it moves to is 1 number higher than the card you moved, for example you can move a 4 onto a 5, and have a 8 and queen below the 4.

This style may sound complicated, but it allows the freedom to move many cards at once. The interesting them though is that all of the cards are on the table, with some being face down and there is no draw deck. You have to be tactical about what cards you move to where to win.

A more advanced version is called Spider Solitaire. In this version instead of moving the cards on to the aces, you need to match the cards by suit from the king down to the ace, and they remain on the game table until you manage to do so. Though once you create a free column you can move any card there similar to Freecell.

Another extremely popular style is the Pyramid Solitaire. In this version, you have a pyramid of cards, and you remove them by matching a pair of cards to a total of 13. For example a 7 and a 6 would make 13. In most games the king is worth 13, the queen 12 and so on. You also have a series of base cards that you can reveal to create matches.

A further development of Pyramid Solitaire has become very popular. In this style instead of adding cards up, you must remove cards either 1 number above or below a base card. You can use any suit, and ace to king rollover but the card must be only 1 number different.

This style has lead to some stunning designs and layouts of cards, because they don’t require a standard deck the only real limit to how you lay the table is your imagination. With a number of hidden cards you can use to replace the base card and the possibility of combo’s of matches this style can be very exciting to play.
